Phantasy Star Online for the Dreamcast is no longer hosted by Sega. In December of 2003, Sega first terminated the North American Dreamcast servers for Phantasy Star Online. In March of 2007, Sega terminated all remaining Dreamcast servers in Japan and Europe. For 4 years OnlineConsoles used Sega's official PSO servers as a stable medium for playing Dreamcast PSO. With Sega no longer supporting PSO, we are now forced to use alternative methods to play online.
Over the years alternative software has been developed by a variety of people that enables Phantasy Star Online to be networked independently. Unfortunately the user environment has improved very little, and PSO's player population is still comprised of cheaters/griefers.
To play Phantasy Star Online in a Legit environment, OnlineConsoles has internalized its PSO community. To play PSO and discuss the game at this website, you will need to meet a certain set of requirements and apply for access.
HOW CAN I GAIN ACCESS?
Exclusive PSO access is required to discuss the following games:
- (DC) Phantasy Star Online v1
- (DC) Phantasy Star Online v2
To apply you must meet the following OnlineConsoles.com community requirements:
- be a registered member for 6 months or more
- have a minimum of 50+ posts
- be a Legit PSO player
(no cheating / no duped items / no hacks / no server exploits)
- able to keep information confidential
- have been active at the site for the past 3 months or more
(includes playing games online and forum participation)
Our access requirements are designed to ensure that this community stays legit, and is protected from outside interferance by cheaters/griefers. Rather than letting a bunch of drifters in who will be here one week and gone the next, the activity requirements exist to build a solid foundation of longterm players. Our goal is quality over quantity. So our community will remain small, yet will continue to be active for many years to come.
WHAT IS THE PSO EXPERIENCE LIKE AT ONLINECONSOLES?
OnlineConsoles.com is the only community known to maintain a 100% legit gameplay environment. Members can idle in LOBBY 01 without fear of FSOD, can host unpassworded games without griefers crashing their game, and can freely trade with other members without fear of duped items. Our goal is to provide a fun place to play which mirrors what Sega originally intended for the game, without the negative effects of cheating.
Members are required to dedicate a PSO character file. Your OC character cannot be taken onto other servers, and should only be played with OC members who have PSO access. Also, if you have been playing your character online on other servers since the official server shutdown, you will be required to create a brand new character. This is done to protect our community from illegally duplicated items.
For Dreamcast PSO we do not provide a primary PSO server. Game sessions are hosted on a game-by-game basis. This, along with the confidentiality of all PSO members, makes it secure from outsiders.
IS PSO AT OC RIGHT FOR YOU?
It must be stated that this is not the only location to play Phantasy Star Online. There are other communities with much larger player populations. Your application for PSO access should be considered not just based on your desire to play PSO, but whether you want to play PSO here at OC.
