here is the file name by the way, DCRPG-0.0.1-src.tar[1], and DCRPG-0.0.1-bin.tar[1] .tar is an extension for a compressed file, like .zip or .rar. Winrar should be able to extract the files for you. The bin file is used with "selfboot" which can be found at http://www.dchomebrew.org/selfboot.shtml. On the same page download the IP.bin (right click save as) and save in the DCRPG folder (be sure to save as IP.bin). Now run selfboot and select the DCRPG folder. Select the type of disc image you want and let the program make the image. It's kind of a lot of work for very little. If you don't want to go through all this, PM me and I can email the discjuggler image to you (or Nero if you prefer) Hope this clears up some confusion. |

Wow, this will be HUGE news if it comes into working order! I assume that the first online incarnation will be broadband only, since it is easier NOT to implement a dial-up runtime program. However, I hope he releases the network drivers for it when it is done, that way more homebrew Dreamcast games can be brought online!

it would really suck if it was only broadband, because most people, including me, only have dialup

Yeh im sure if it was BB only it would be largly overlooked by the DC community, including me.

Or maybe not. The game developers know that most of the DC players doesn't have the BBA, so perhaps they could optimize the server for dial up from the beginning, otherwise almost no one will show up.

I'm not saying that the will make it BBA compatible only because they think its better, I ASSUME that they would make it BBA compatible since you simply need to make a connect sequence for it, whereas, if the made modem support, they would need to make a dial-up runtime program FOLLOWED by a connect sequence. You like playing Quake III Arena online? Well, it took ID software 2 years (yes the DC version was in development that long, check some old ODCM issues) to fully work out the bugs to keep the dail-up mode from chopping up from excessive lag.
I'm not saying it won't happen, heck I HOPE they put dial-up support in it, because I ain't playing it if it ain't got it. I'm just saying its MOST LIKELY it will be BBA only since it is FAR easier to implement. |
