The theory of this is that by using devices such as relays, logic gates, or a PIC (Programmable Integrated Circuit), one can condense the amount
of wires from a complex control scheme to something simple enough to solder onto the limited contact points of a dreamcast controller.
In this way, true homebrew twin sticks are possible (At least in my head), with just a few parts found at RadioShack (and the purchase of arcade 4-way trigger joysticks)

**Logic Operations**
IF Left-UP AND Right-UP      //dash forward
IF Left-DOWN AND Right-DOWN   //dash backwards
IF Left-UP AND Right-DOWN   //pivot right
IF Right-UP AND Left-DOWN   //pivot left

**Logic Operations**
IF Left-LEFT AND Right-LEFT      //dash left
IF Left-RIGHT AND Right-RIGHT      //dash right
IF Left-LEFT AND Right-RIGHT       //jump
IF Left-RIGHT AND Right-LEFT      //block

Your thoughts and input are welcome.

Have you moved from the theoretical to the practical yet ?

Controllers are cheap so cost-wise it's worth having a go.

Well as of right now, I am completely broke. With luck, I'll actually have a job at RadioShack.

What would you need to complete the project ?

Good to hear Smile

The game is great with the pad, even greater with the sticks.
Agreed. Sticks make the tangram a bit easier, too. >.<

Thanks, I'll take a look. I understand there is an upgrade disc(maybe for the ntsc-j version only ?) for the game available, though I've never seen it. If you're interested in the game it may be worth tracking down.

It's incredibly rare, and yes it is JP only. It was distributed in a magazine, IIRC. I haven't even found a BACKUP of it.

Yea that upgrade disc is impossible to find. I have been searching for it for 4 years. No luck.

Smurph, thanks for pointing me in the right direction for the downloads.

If I ever come across a copy of the disc, I'll hand it in to OC headquarters.

This is what you are looking for:

Dreamcast Magazine (Aug.11, 2000), GD Vol.6
Content:
Demos:F355 Challenge, COOL COOL TOON
Videos:Grandia II, Mercurius Pretty -end of the century-
Updates:Cyber Troopers Virtual On Oratorio Tangram customized disk Ver5.66

I actually just ordered this. I've only seen 2 around, the one I ordered and this one that just ended on Yahoo Japan Auctions for 8000JPY (~$80):

Hey undamned, thanks a ton for that information. I own about 15 or so Dreamcast Magazines from Japan so far. I tried asking some of the Virtual On communities in the past about it but they wouldn't hand out the information. They would rather feel "1337" as if they have the password to james bond's car garage or something than share information with a fellow enthusiast.

I'll keep an eye out for this Magazine/GD from now on. I am able to order from Yahoo Japan, I wish I knew about that auction a few days ago. I would have been all over it Embarassed
