As we all know, QIII needs a dialtone to begin connecting to the PC-DC server. I have accomplished this using my house's landline. Unfortunately, while at school, my roomates all use cell phones and we have no landline; therefore, I cannot line swap.
Are there any successful alternative ways? or am I fated to not play QIII online while at school? I'd appreciate any help! -RS |

you could buy a 'telefoon switch' for inside your house (i don't know how it's called in english exactly (i'm dutch)). and connect both your dreamcast and your PC-DC computer to it. that way you don't need a line voltage simulator. | ||||

Ok... I've been looking online for different tools to create a dial tone (we all know you need to "Line Swap" when going online w/ Q3). I think I found the answer.
http://www.amazon.com/IDEAL-62-140-TRACETone-Generator-Amplifier/dp/B000IBTDHM It's a dial tone generator. Is anyone familiar with these tools? Furthermore, would I be able to perform a line swap with it? -RS |

Hrmm I found the manual for more information:
http://www.hometech.com/pdf/id-62140.pdf I am not 100% sure what this device does. So I can't say much else. It is defiantly worth looking into though. Nice find. |

Ok, this thing outputs tones at 995Hz and 845Hz, while a normal United States dial tone consists of 440Hz and 350Hz signals. I don't know whether the DC modem will acknowledge a signal higher than 440Hz or not, but I'm inclined to think not.
I found a device that takes sound from the phone and outputs to a 3.5mm speaker jack http://www.omnicronelectronics.com/digital/mod-sc.htm. Maybe I could use this in reverse to play a dial tone .wav into the modem? In any case, I'm gonna call the local electronics specialist sometime this week. Until then... |
