Hi,

I don't know if there already is a thread about this in the forum, but I couldn't find one so I will start my own.
Also I don't know if it's interesting for anyone else anyway.

Since I wanted to have an original VMU in the 1-slot of my controllers because of the display, I wanted to know which games of my collection let you choose the controller and slot from or to which it loads or writes it's data, because of the little data that can be saved on a normal VMU. The aim is just to transfer all the data of the games that don't let you choose to VMU A in controller 1, whereas the data of the other games can be saved anywhere. So I just checked all my games for this possibility and created a little list that I would like to share with everyone here. Perhaps you guys could add information about further games, if you want. *But please only of games that are not already listed. We don't want this to become a *show your collection* thread, right?*
Also I'd like you to correct me if I made any mistakes (perhaps I was just to stupid to find the specific option in some games).

Anyway, here is the list:

Games that LET you choose the slot:

- 4x4 Evolution
- Alien Front Online
- Aqua GT (PAL)
- Capcom VS SNK (NTSC-JP)
- Carrier (PAL)
- Crazy Taxi 2 (PAL)
- Chu Chu Rocket (PAL)
- Daytona USA (PAL)
- Dead Or Alive 2 (PAL)
- Dragon Blood (PAL)
- F355 (PAL)
- Gauntlet Legends (PAL)
- Giga Wing (PAL)
- Grandia 2 (PAL)
- Guilty Gear X (NTSC-JP)
- Half Life (unreleased)
- Headhunter (PAL)
- Hydro Thunder (PAL)
- Jet Set Radio (PAL) (only controller 1)
- Maken X (PAL) (only controller 1)
- Marvel vs Capcom 2
- Metropolis Street Racer (PAL)
- NHL2K (PAL)
- Outtrigger (PAL)
- Phantasy Star Online (PAL)
- Phantasy Star Online v2
- Power Stone (PAL)
- Propeller Arena (unreleased)
- Quake 3 (PAL)
- Resident Evil 2 (PAL)
- Resident Evil 3 (PAL)
- Resident Evil: Code Veronica
- Samba De Amigo
- Sega GT (PAL)
- Slave Zero (PAL)
- Sonic Adventure
- Star Wars Demolition (PAL)
- Tokyo Bus Guide (NTSC-JP)
- UEFA Striker (PAL)
- Vanishing Point (PAL)

Games that DON'T let you choose the slot:

- 18 Wheeler (JP-NTSC)
- Bangai-O (PAL)
- Berserker (JP-NTSC)
- Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits Vol. 2 (NTSC-US)
- NBA2K2 (PAL)
- PlanetWeb (all versions)
- Sega Smash Pack Vol. 1 (NTSC-US)
- Shenmue (PAL)
- Silver (PAL)
- Soul Reaver (PAL)
- Space Channel 5 (PAL)
- Starlancer (PAL)
- Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles (PAL)
- Tokyo Highway Challenge 2 (PAL)

Couldn't check the rest of my games since they don't boot anymore Sad

Awesome idea. I'll try and add the games that I have.

EDIT: Just tried out Chu Chu Rocket, Giga Wing and Quake 3 Arena. Chu Chu Rocket does LET you choose the VMU slot, but Giga Wing and Quake 3 require internal saving (you have to save from the save option in the menu, there is no autosave).

I'll do more, but when I have time.

What does that have to do with anything? It still lets you choose the slot.

Also: Sega Smash Pack Vol. 1 and Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits Vol. 2 do not let you choose. They save in A1.

Yeah, but it's not from the start-up of the game.

EDIT: Marvel vs Capcom 2 also allows you to select VMU unit.

Ok, I added your games to the list. I included Quake and Giga Wing in the positive listing, because eventually you can choose the slot. Btw., could you perhaps also state if the games you name are PAL or NTSC? I don't know if there are any games out there where the developers changed the save dialogs in the different region versions, but at least it could be Wink

I really don't think the saving method would be different depending on region... but everything I list is NTSC-U. I also forgot to mention PlanetWeb (all versions) only saves in A1, if that counts.

Samba De Amigo lets you choose where to save when it first boots up, i guess phantasy star online v2, cause you only said v1... 4x4 evolution lets you choose the location... alienfront online does... I'll try to do some research on my games tonight for more

Update:
Added Virtua Fighter 3 to the list of games that DON'T let you choose
Added Resident Evil 2 and Crazy Taxi 2 to the list of games that LET you choose

next Update:
Added Soul Reaver and NBA2K2 to list of games that DON'T let you choose
Added NHL2K and Star Wars Demolition to list of games that LET you choose.

But I am not sure about NBA2K2, since it's menu structure and presentation resembles that of
NHL2K so much that I can't believe that it's really not possible to choose the VMU in one game
and in the other it's possible. Perhaps I just didn't find the option in NBA. Could someone of you check this?
Thanks!
