After quite a bit of attempts and troubleshooting I was able to connect to Starlancer via PC-DC server and join a game hosted by another player on a PC-DC server.
The other player was using a Netopia router with all ports forwarded to the Dreamcast, while I was running a VMware linux PC-DC server. I only had the port ranges forwarded that are listed in the PC-DC server guide on this site. I was never able to host a game though. The other player could see my games, but always encountered an error when trying to join. After looking at the packet logs, it seems that, at least for our successful game, the guide is wrong about which ports are used. The joining player tries to communicate with the host over port 47624 which is not listed in the guide. 47524 is listed instead. I believe that is why the other player could never join my games. I also expanded the port range "6900-7500" to "6900-8000" because the game was using some 77xx 78xx and 79xx ports. We'll hopefully be trying again sometime tonight and get this all figured out. |
