"Its 2014 and I am buying dialup hardware brand new off a major tech retailer"... yep. It just baffles me that its this late in the game and I am buying brand new modem gear, off newegg of all places. I got the gear for PCDC Dreamcast online action of course.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825134002

TRENDnet TFM-560X External Data/Fax/TAM Modem

  • 56Kbps
  • RS-232 (Serial Port)
  • 2 x RJ11 ports
  • V.92 56 Kbps ITU standard
  • V.90 56 Kbps ITU standard
  • V.34 33.6 Kbps ITU standard
  • V.32bis, V.32, V.22bis, V.23, V.21, Bell 212A, Bell 103

"Works out of box on Windows 7 and Linux"

and... then... I scored:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200964

StarTech Model ICUSB2321F 6 ft. 1 Port FTDI USB to Serial RS232 Adapter Cable with COM Retention M-M

So I can route the modem into Linux Virtual Machines for a PC-DC server setup. This serial cable is more expensive, but its rock solid, and doesn't suffer from the subtle issues people tend to have on the cheaper cables.

Smile
