Hard to tell unless someone else has the same modem. I don't think many of us are too familiar with basic modem technology despite having used them for some time now.

I've neither used this modem or win98, so I can't really make any guesses.

Some modems use the command AT#CLS=8 instead of AT+FCLASS=8

I'm having exactly the same issue as the OP. Conexant USB modem and PAL modem. I've posted more here: http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7385

Do PAL modems even work with line voltage inducers? I haven't found one success story anywhere!

Going to try measuring with an oscilloscope when I can get access to one!
