I have the Japanese Import of Wipeout XL on the Saturn. Many may not know this exists.

It is really impressive to see this game running on the Saturn hardware. It runs at 30fps, but is just as detailed as the PS1 version. Overall its one of the best showcases of 3D graphics running on the Saturn.

You can see a comparison video here showing the two versions side by side:

I am a framerate purest and always prefer 60fps, but I am also a futuristic racing fan, and this game looks too good on the Saturn not to play it.

The lame part is, I really wish I could say " Try and buy this game if you can for the Saturn Smile" Unfortunatly people are selling it on ebay for 120-180 bucks. The PAL version seems more reasonably priced, but still in short supply on ebay. I bought mine on Yahoo Japan for $30.00 in 2010.

I have the Pal version of this somewhere. Cracking game!

Psygnosis were wizards when it came to getting the most out of a system (I believe they wrote the playstation dev kit).

I think you said it best here:

Maybe that is why I respect, play, and like Wipeout XL on the Saturn so much. Even though the PS1 version performs better, the Saturn version is firing on all cylinders to run Wipeout XL and it is due to the port quality by the developers.

Its awesome to hear you own the PAL version *thumbs up*

I got it with a bunch of other Saturn games for about £5 15 years ago. Those were the days!

For more info on Psygnosis: Kim Justice did an excellent documentary on them last year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvYlxnHOY-Q
