Is there any way to signal to someone in an in-progress game, that you are waiting in the lobby? This is a critical flaw hehe.

No there isn't, Nikon. Of the little I played, I remember this being very frustrating as a member (Maddmaxx) was in game and I wanted to talk to him but couldn't.

Yeah, its not very helpful, which is why I put in the listing to arrive within 10 mins of the time, because after that there is no way of contacting each other

It would be nice if broadband were available to me, then when I saw someone was in a match, I could just send them a message on jabber. But sadly, good 'ole ma bell (now AT&T) is deeming it not cost effective to run DSL lines in my area at this time.
