I've been looking into this for a while now over at assembler games, http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/half-life-has-some-functional-multiplayer-components.57318/

Its really long, look at it as an ongoing research report. But from everything gathered there, it looks like the DC's GoldSRC build is nearly identical to the PC's. Networking and all seems to be there, even multiplayer maps and team chat. Along with the developer console pretty much being a dedicated server within itself. It just needs to be tested with an internet connection. That's probably really difficult to do but it'd be hard to convince me that it's impossible

I've seen this thread here from a really long time ago, ancient on internet standards lol http://dreamcast.onlineconsoles.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=46824&sid=89882f3c303d58b138d99903b010171 6

Thanks to Sizious's impressive patching, he re-enabled that connect commands which seem to function as they should. So the 'case closer' "net_ws.c" seems to be references to the compiler, and probably were compiled within the game

Edit : Something i forgot to mention was you can compile a new hl.dll using the HLSDK sources in the Windows CE Dreamcast kit. It may be possible to define the modem/bba initialization functions/commands somewhere by doing that

Pretty cool, although broadband is probably a long-shot as the SDK came with no drivers for it AFAIK.

With kazade's new Raspberry Pi dial-in server software, modem only may be just fine
