Ok, I think I went nuts on my DC. Since the DC has a heating problem, I came up with the idea of modding the fan to a certian extent. I opened up my DC and unscrewed and removed that black airshaft that the fan's on, then I hot glued the fan right up against the vent. I thought that this might make it quicker for the air to escape. What do you guys think?

Either you did something good, or completely fucked up your dreamcast.

Good
1. Heat might get out quicker
2. Now you have mod experience

Bad
1. Not enough heat may reach the fan so it won't come out at all.
2. Probablly just took a couple lives from the dreamcast.
3. If it gets messed up in a couple days or weeks, don't blame it on something else...lol

I'm sure I could think of a couple dozen things to blame it on if my DC dies an early age. lol Smile

You might want to try an external DC cooling fan. I had the same problem with mine, so I purchased a snap-on fan for $10 that solved the problem.

The fan works in conjunction with the internal fan by drawing in cool air while the internal fan blows out hot air. It also has its own external power supply, so it does not draw power from the DC. You don't even have to open up the Dreamcast to install it. The fan just snaps onto the back of the Dreamcast, and it does not use any screws, tape, etc. Once the fan is on, it looks and fits like it's straight from the factory.

Not too many places carry it online anymore, but it was well worth the money for me. I haven't had a loading problem since, and that can be a problem during warm summer days.

Good Luck!

I can't wait for the days when console technology gets to the point that we are forced to rely on liquid cooling techniques to keep them from melting and burning down our houses.

That said, I knew a guy once who had an external fan for his PlayStation, it and worked pretty well for him. I don't see why it wouldn't work well for a DC also.

Liquid cooling would be awesome! I saw the other day in a magizine that there are already AC machines that you can install on PC's; now that's crazy.

Hot glue melts at 350 degrees F, which is the same temp that you usually use your oven to cook food with. I seriously doubt it gets that hot inside there.

Like everyone else said not smart, the DC fan is put back for a reason maybe it can't move all the air from being right next to the vent. They sell replacement fans here...

$10

and invest in getting this, a cooling fan you attach to the back of the Dreamcast I will so because im not over working my DC and want it to last as long as it can
