Question: Why would you want to use a 33k modem? It's slower than the 56k. I believe that the 33k was released on the first Japanese DC's when it first came out. A 56k modem was released with the US DC's, thus the 33k modem never showed the light here.

our (in the UK and Europe)'s Dreamcast came with the 33k modem, never did come with the 56k for us. can just buy a 56k one and plug it in though.

Dude, that sucks. I'm sorry Sega gave Europe the shaft. Sad

I know. We think we got it bad here in NA compared to Japan, but EU got it real bad. No BBA, not even a 56K. At least they got Rez. Smile

Not fair Sad I had to put up with the Xbox version. I guess Sega had to even out all the shafts that they put on all the countries that had the DC. Confused lol

I could just imagine a team working inside of Sega to equailze the shaft-giving. It was those jerks that shut servers down and sold them to Nokia. Kinda like a shaft from beyond the grave.

Yeah, it's really too bad that SOE gave PAL DC's a 33k modem, but I'm not quite sure if I would go as far as saying that they gave them the shaft. Realistically, most (if not all) online (and formerly online) games did not consume enough bandwidth to show a noticeable difference between 33 and 56 kilobyte per second connection speeds. It might affect web browsing though.

Yea, and for the people that use 56k modems for their connection for DC online gameplay, you have to remember that 53k is the fastest that you can get up to; that is unless you're two feet away from a telephone substation, then you can get 56k. I can just imagine what 33k would be like on the Dreamcast. Sad
