Is this game online only like ringworld or ffXI, or is it online and offline like PSO?

Good question, for which, I have an answer Smile

Alien Front Online has a single player offline mission mode, as well as Arcade mode. The mission most lets you choose either Army or Alien factions, and go through a long bracket of campaigns over a variety of maps. They get pretty challenging I might add.

The Arcade mode is your standard survival based arcade mode. Where you see how many rounds you can stay alive and continue killing enemies. The longer you stay alive, the more time you have on the clock and the more enemies you can kill.

Unfortunatly AFO doesn't have any offline splitscreen or system-link options.

Regardless this is still an incredible game, with tons of replay value offline. The single player campaign will take you quite a while to beat, and its Arcade Mode is a great for "pick up and play" type game sessions.

Yep, that is a very solid deal. Pretty much the standard going rate.

You can't use the mic with AFO, since it was used online only. However, you can use it with other games like Seaman.

seaman is awesome for its time, but its basically a virtual pet that you feed & talk too, if you're expecting a game, don't buy it
on the other hand, if you want to experience something completely different, go for it

ps: should you own Mr Driller, the mic also works on that game (although its not in the book)

I really love this game, but I've never played it online. This game was the first thing that came to mind when I discovered that people were still playing Dreamcast online. Too bad that this game is not available for online play, but I am very excited about the games that are still here, and that this Dreamcast following still exists. I am actually new to online gaming, I haven't owned a Dreamcast for a few years either and I'm currently saving for a new one. I've got some catching up to do. I am hoping that I will have one by the time I meet the requirements. Anyway, great game I love that you can choose either side and the missions are fun and challenging. It is visually very good and I like the General hanging out of the top of the tank when you play as the humans. and the cool insectoid look to the alien crafts. I got the mic with the game and I only ever used it for Seaman.

I played this game online every day before school. The voice chat actually worked pretty good, and this game had surprisingly little lag. 4v4 on 56k, with voice chat, and it still ran smoothly. I really wish this game would come back online. It was great, although it did get old kind of fast. I always played as the smaller tank/alien, and got really good at strafing while aiming ahead.

Is this game complete a good deal for $3.99?

What were the modes available for online play?

Can you play them offline as well?

EDIT:

I've been looking into this more.

Is it worth it for the single player game alone?

For this price, even if you don't like it, i don't think you'll regret it for the rest of your life Very Happy
I would say the offline is not great but you can have fun for a couple of hours.

I LOVE AFO!

I used to play this game online all the time, and I used it as a way to voice chat with my friends from other dreamcast games such as Q3A or PSO or UT.

It was fantastic, and I am truly sorry for those of you who were not able to partake in the pleasures of playing AFO online.

On a side note, I went to Las Vegas last week and the Arcade at the PALMS hotel/casino has a 2-player Arcade version available to play. I played it, and I enjoyed every second. While it wasnt the same as it was online, it was the closest I've come to it since the AFO server was taken down years ago.

RIP AFO

And just to show my commitment to this game, heres a link to my old AFO clan site! hahahaha (Please dont make fun of my terrible site, I was still just a kid at the time and I made it all on my Dreamcast browser. haha)
