I've crawled through some threads with a lot of people concerned about the PSO PAL servers going down for good. Not sure if it's been posted here recently but to bring some cheer to the forum here's an e-mail I just recieved confirming that the servers are staying up:

Quote:
Dear Lee,

Thank you for your email. There are no plans to close the European Dreamcast
servers for PSO. We have no information about Quake III servers outside of
Europe, so I would advise you to contact SEGA of America via www.sega.com.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries.

Best regards,

Vanessa Forsythe

That doesn't mean they will be online forever. It only means that they haven't set a date for taking them down. It's inevitable that PAL PSO will no longer be online someday.

I wasn't trying to say they'd be online forever. I'm simply trying to bring a bit of light hearted good news to the forum. With people speculating that a closure's in the works and more and more people playing PSO for the first time, I'm trying to say there's nothing to worry about.

The good thing is, its giving us all time to rebuild the DC PSO realm. More and more gamers each day are picking up copies of PAL pso. Its great.

I dont think that email means very much in all honesty. What it means is a customer service person got your email and sent out a standard reply to your question. 5 mins later that same customer service person could be told to change the standard reply to were closeing pso on such a date. I highly dobt the customer service team at sega europe kno anything about any forth comming decisions from he big wigs, unless they happen to be friendly with them in the canteen Smile . Ive phoned sega-europe any times it just sounds like a standard call centre in the back ground with people giving out standar replies, possibly even scripted. Ive worked in these kinds of places and front lines always the last to know. Sorry to be a downer but it could all chage in a finger click.

But cool that there's someone here who can say first hand they'd fire out a standard reply like I got. But not cool that I just got my PSO PAL through the post this morning and now you're getting me worried...

Nah, don't worry. It's a waste of time.

I recommend that you fire up your new copy of PSO and start building a character. You'll feel much better. Smile

Yeh no point worrying just get on and play Smile . The Pal servers will close one day thats obvious so you may as well enjoy any time thats left. When Sega-europe do get round to stating a closure date Im sure you will read about it here first.
