Just got my BBA in the mail last night. So far I've only used planetweb browser 3.0 to set up the connection and browse the web a little bit.
Tonight I plan on trying PAL PSO v.1 and maybe Quake 3. Quake 3 still works in the U.S. right? Anyone have any other recommendations for games I can play? I've heard there are only a few that support the BBA. However, I also heard that I can play PAL PSO even though it wasn't originally a BBA compat. title as long as I set up my connection beforehand with the PW browser v.3. Is this true of all online games? Even those advertised to be dial up only? |

I've heard that if you have a boot disc, the PAL PSO will work with it. (you need to configure the settings using planetweb 3.0 first though.
Anyone have the info on playing other games using it? |

lol if i had bba i would definately check out quake3 online one game that u can benefit of having a good speed from and actually play the game like its meant to be played even tho you'll probably get alot of bad feedback from modem players if u try to play them and ur on bba. ![]() |

That's a good point. What would happen? Would you have an unfair advantage? I've been on xbox live when someone with a slow connection joins a game and it slowwwws it down for everyone else. That obviously wouldn't happen if I join a game full of modemers, but maybe I'd be able to move a lot faster than the rest of them. Is that what you think would happen? |

The game delays weapon fire for 56K users. If your playing over broadband, there is no delay. So technically, it's an advantage, but 56Kers are used to the delay.

Yeah, the Quake 3 players are never concerned when I use the BBA, I often get a comment about the high ping, but thats about it, other than the jealousy..lol
As for PAL PSO, yes it can be used with the BBA as long as you set it up with the web browser, the game will then recognise that the BBA is installed and will call upon your settings to connect. There are however NO OTHER GAMES that support the BBA, or at least there are no others that are still online that support the BBA, so its just PSO v1&2 and quake 3 arena Cheers, Craig |

why would you need a BBA for PSO? I play PSO online with the modem and there's no lag at all, except in a crowded lobby, but there's nothing important you're going to be doing in a lobby, unless you count chat.

Well, of course you don't actually "need" a BBA for PSO, but then again you dont need it for quake 3 either....however, it does come in handy when others are saying how bad the lag is and when your a BBA player its hardly noticible (in my experience anyway) plus the fact that you dont get so many dissconection problems.
The main point though, is if the user doesnt have access to dial up (such as me) because sadly here in the UK there is no such thing as a free ISP, its all charged by the minute no matter what you choose. But yeah, I see what you are getting at about it not being a huge benefir for PSO, but on the other hand, if you can only use broadband...its well worth it |

Owning a BBA means you don't have to tie up the phone line and can play for as many hours as you want.
The games compatible with the BBA are in the online games list. Also playing on broadband with Quake 3 Arena with dialup users does make the over all game 'less' laggy for the other users. Since you have a faster ping. I have never seen anyone 'complain' about ping. I know its fully possible and you might run across a few players that would cry and whine, but most arn't that interested in the score. All the people I have seen playing pretty much are just happy to be there and to have some targets to frag. Plus my dialup account I use sometimes when my DSL goes down; it's always in the green. So in the end people really can't tell if I have bba or if I'm on dialup. BBA users don't get bitched at. It's the users playing from their PC's that have the un-fair advantage. |

It's worth it though since I don't have / feel like messing with dial up free isps. I got online tonight and played Quake 3. It was a blast, but I got my butt kicked all over creation. I was using the mouse/keyboard and since I haven't played any pc fps since Doom, I was more than a little rusty. It's hard for me to get used to the keyboard controls. Everyone tells me it's much better than a controller when you get used to it. Judging by my playing skills tonight, I'm probably about 2500 horrible deaths away from getting used to it. |

The DC would probably be an online beast today if SEGA shipped all units with a BBA and a Modem in the US market at launch.

A seganet launch in late 99 would have helped too, when you think about it, have of DC's (retail) life was spent off line

You have to remember that BB was still rare and/or impossible for most people to get back when the DC was launched. Sega took about a year to even get SegaNet and the online games going on dial-up, let alone catering to a BB adaptor. IF the DC had been kept "alive" for another year, say into 2002, then I think we'd have seen the BBA put to better use.
