According to Sega the Americans are not able to play Quake 3 online.

Dear Mr. Kras, Thank you for e-mailing Sega Technical Support. The Americans are not able to play online. The servers are no longer available. The Americans are able to play online with Quake 3 (NTSC version). And I've heard that the Europeans aren't able to (PAL version). What is the reason for this? C. I think what they are trying to say is that the sega opperated servers have been shut down so it has nothing to do with Sega anymore.....as far as sega are concerned Quake 3 arena is offline becuase they no longer have anything to do with it, but luckily for us PC users can host servers that are then shown on the server list (when working) by the master server that is hosted by the games creators.

Great. Now Sega is gonna get suspicious and check their stuff, find the functioning master server, and kill it. Just great, nice one htbaa.
Rule 1: NEVER Email a company about a game that is still online. And you did, by specifically singleing out the NTSC system. |

omg are you paranoid or something? It's in the hands of ID Software, not SEGA's.

Don't panic....Sega has nothing to do with quake 3 being online or offline...they would have to get ID software to take down the master server, which would also shut down the PC master as well....as they both use the same thing, which just isnt gonna happen....but whatever, Sega has no control over quake 3 arena anymore....none whatsoever....this means that sega cannot take quake 3 arena offline...because it already opperates without any input from sega at all.
As a matter of fact, we will still be abel to play quake even if the master server was shut down because you can manully connect to a servers IP address, which is why Quake 3 Arena will be online forever Cheers, Craig Last edited by segadreamcaster on Fri Jul 23, 2004 4:44 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Yeah it must be on the same master server. PC gamers are able to play against Dreamcast players.

The US version of Quake 3 Arena for Dreamcast does not require the master server to be online. Yes, having the master server up does make it easier to find games, but it is not a necessity. If you want, you can type the IP address of any Dreamcast-compatible Q3A server directly into the game and it will connect. Quake 3 Arena will be online forever (or a long as people want to put up servers, which doesn't require much more than a copy of the PC version and a fast internet connection), and there is not a whole lot that Sega or anyone else can do to take it offline. |

if PC players can play against Dreamcast players, then why don't I ever see anybody playing against me that's on PC when I play Quake III Arena online? in other words, when I play online, I only see Dreamcast players.

cause dreamcast version was released before the latest PC updates, so the pc players want to play the newer versions of q3 that dc can't, also q3 servers for pc can handle way more then 4 people, and in q3 more people the more fun the game is!

hahah ... just like that foolish SOA....
unless those tech support people have played Q3 recently (they have not clearly) they must not know of people running there own that DC players can connect too and think since the official servers are offline that you can't play online at all anymore. |
||||
|
||||
DCM, is right!
sega shut down all of there q3a servers, so they think that u cant play online n e more! for game disigners, they r kinda dumn . EDIT:i am downloading "dreamcast UTOPIA 1.3 bootdick% Adam. |
