Below is a list of still available servers hosted in Spain for Dreamcast Quake 3. Nobody knows why these servers are still online. Rule of thumb is, just be thankfull they exist for public use. So if you are hosting a tournament, or wanting to use a server for a private game, feel free to take a gander at the info below. These servers are usually empty unless someone is hosting a special game, as these servers do not appear when the North American version of Q3 scans the master list. So please be aware of this.

Yep Extremly odd. Btw, I'd rather not know why they are still up!!!!!!! So to anyone feeling dumb enough to go poking around asking companies...PLEASE DO NOT!

These are probobly sitting on some rogue box at some building, and are just sitting there running and nobody knows what they are for.

If someone did they would probobly pull the machines down and use them for something else.

Plus I really want to see how long these things stay up for. Would be crazy if like 2 years from now these servers are still up. Would be quite a story Laughing

I've found this thread just for casuality, since I don't visit Online Consoles as much as I would like (work, etc.) About the location of the servers... Yeah, they're in Madrid. When SEGA Espaņa (aka SEGA of Spain) was dissolved, they kept an office for legal representation in Spain, althought SEGA Espaņa dissappeared as enterprise. I guess they keep some computers in that office, but they aren't for game servers. I think that servers are located in one of our main Data Centers in Madrid, such as Acens (www.acens.com)

And it's almost impossible to get any other info that you can get throught RIPE Net services, since that buildings are like high security jails (many important banks and companies have servers there) They even have biometrical systems for accessing, what means that you've to put your hand in a reader to be able to enter. It's really interesting to enter in a place like that.

I'm from Spain. I loved and still love my Dreamcast and SEGA. I aplaud the work which many of you still do to keep the Dreamcast community online.

PD: Oh, I forgot to comment that, I'm sure, those servers are being kept and payed by SEGA of Europe... But without their knowledge. When they dissolved SEGA Espaņa there were many incomprehensible actions, specially to the workers. Althought I like SEGA, in this case SOE acted deshonestly... They've done many things wrong about their economy and this could be just one more. If you wanna keep that servers up, don't tell a word to SOE.

By the way it is more than ok to reply to old topics here. We would rather have users reply to an existing topic, than create another topic of something that has already been discussed.

As far as I know they are still working. I just repinged them in All Seeing Eye, and they all came up as working functional servers. So give them a try. You won't find anyone online on them since they arn't being advertised in the master list. They are good for scheduling a match, especially if you are on dialup and in europe.

Ah thanks for that. I asked because i pinged a couple of them and it didn't seem to work, maybe it was the firewall or something.

When i get used to how all this works and as soon as i get a legit copy of the game I will start joining those scheduled games (or creating them, in case people don't use those servers).

Some days ago, SEGA of Europe has anounced that they're going to re-open SEGA Espaņa. As you know, it was disolved in 2001. They're going to take responsability for marketing operations and public relations by now, but they expect to take control over the distribution and other aspects again after Christmas. I hope this doesn't affect to the "Q3A" servers which still are kept in that "misterious" Data Center. Cross your fingers...

I would have thought so as well. Sega or the company that is hosting them obviously forgot they are there. I hope they stay up for as long as possible. Why? Because it is a damn interesting part of Dreamcast Online History :] To think that so many years later there are these "rogue servers" still online in Spain. Pretty crazy!
