ok i have a problem...

i downloaded a copy of ntscPSOv2 off a torrent...

i did this because i had a real copy of it already ordered and in the mail so i figured it was basically legal...

anyways i played with the burnt copy all nice and good right? now that i have my real copy, i go to play it and it says no and won't read my file...

doesn't make any sense to me

its the same game... there shouldn't be any difference in the variable i'm changing

Hmm...I'm able to go back and forth between my burnt copy and my original. What is the "variable" you're talking about?

That is rather strange. Are you sure the backup you downloaded was the same region as the one you purchased?

Well it could have been a Japanese version 2.

In any event, I would just start a fresh char with the US v2 original.

ya as it turns out... i think the torrent i got was a hacked copy...

most notable difference is that when i hold down R to change the action palette... the quote button changes to a simple menu browser thing in the torrent copy but in the real copy it doesn't change at all

so my question is in the real copy of PSO... when u change the action palette w/ the R trigger, does the chat button change with it... 'cause in mine it doesn't and that simple menu browser thing rocked and kinda want it back

To me it sounds like your original copy is version 1 (version 1 doesn't have the menu thing with the trigger) and your burnt copy is version 2. This would explain why your character wouldn't load in the original copy.
Version 1 won't load version 2 character data.

You can but you will need an EU V1 serial and access key

Since you have a backup copy of V2 it might be a better idea to create a character on there rather than the US V1.

That way when you eventually get EU V2 you won't have to deal with needing an EU V1 serial.

The reason you would need a EU V1 serial to go from US V1 to EU V2 is because the game asks for a V1 serial when you convert to V2. The EU game won't accept a US serial so you would need an EU one.

Starting a new character on the backup would eliminate all this hassle. Since you can't go online with the US version the game will never ask you for a serial.

When you get the EU game you'll be able to load the character created on the US version and go online because that character hasn't been tied to a serial yet.

*phew* this might be a bit confusing...it's a little hard to explain but if you have any questions...just ask

really?

i thought you couldn't convert USv2 to EUv2.... or is that only if you have entered US serials?

i have a character in USv1... so you are saying that instead of converting using a EUv2 and euv1, that i should update my USv1 to USv2 but not put in serials (how do i do that?) and then just put in serials when i get EUv2?

as long as you haven't entered a US serial you'll be able to convert to EU V2

what I'm saying is that you should start a NEW character on your backup US V2 and then convert it to EU later. Having a character on US V1 is what will complicate things.

When you create your US V2 character the game will ask if you have played V1 and you will just say no.
