I'm curious as to what this update is, did they really think that Shenmue fans would still connect to the passport after they supposedly cut off support to it so long ago? Anyways, I'll be getting my DC back online and checking constantly, because I want to see what this update is! Seeya on Starlancer. |

woah, this is unexpected.
since i feared a photoshop job, i signed on to see for my self. and can confirm that the picture posted by cApNhOwDy is genuine.
also under 'Nazoni's Messages' there is a "clue" that states: "Thank you we'll be back soon!". interesting.
furthermore, when you go under 'Everyone's Space', and highlight 'What's New', it states: "Under construction! Please come back later."

I just signed online with my US Shenmue Passport and when I go to "Urgent Messages!" the text displayed for me is:
The required data cannot be retrieved at this time. Please try again.
There could have been a security leak with the wrong permissions set, and someone just logged in and edited one of the files playing a cruel joke on us all...
...or, SEGA-AM2 is actually updating and fixing the online functionality of Shenmue. This would be yet another bizzare tail in the story that is Dreamcast Online.
I am going to hold off on a news post until more information develops. This is really exciting, and I would completly flip out if they ended up fixing shenmue passport.
If anyone has any new updates on the status of this, please reply asap. I will be checking the site regularly throughout the day. |

I don't think this was a mere coincidence. I even set the Dreamcast back to February 22nd, 2006 and still got the error message (unable to retrieve data), so it's not a glitch, though I wasn't able to get it down the exact minute. If anyone else gets the message, record the date and exact time you got it.
Rereading the new posts over at Gamespy, it seems someone's found new files being added to the directory but the site is no longer accessible.
Edit: It's back up! The file is really there ( *.bin posted at Gamespy). |

The sites have gone back down now, someone on that 'Shenmue dojo' place said its because theyre currently hiding the site so no one can view it, and when they finished working on it, they gonna let us view it 
I actully cant belive it!!!
If only i knew why they were doing this after so many years!?!?

Could someone check the Passport disc now that the subdomain's back up? I was able to log in with my PC/DC server but now it keeps dropping the connection for no reason, so I can't check it. |

Shenmue Passport comes with Shenmue. You use it to access online features (trading / ranking / website), but there are offline features like watching movies, listening to ingame music, and character commentary.
There are 4 discs in most Shenmue 1 DC games (gameplay discs 1 -3 and the passport disc) but in some special edition packages, there's a fifth music CD.
