Is it just me or does it seem that all the hype around under-defeat has kind of diverted peoples attention away from radirgy?? everywhere is talking about how many copies UD has sold and how amazing UD is, but it seems people are forgetting about radirgy!
does anyone know how many copies Radirgy has sold? thanks, lozz.

I heard rumours that at one point Radirgy after its release was the hottest selling game in Akihabara for a good week or so. Which wouldn't seem too out of the ordinary considering the games unique appeal and the drought of new titles coming out for other platforms right now.

I hate to say it, but pop culture poser attitudes are even persistant in our scene of gaming. There are people who are not playing Radirgy specifically because of its visual style. There is a whole sect of people who choose Under Defeat simply because its graphics are more widely acceptable. People somehow think that backing Under Defeat makes their penis 12 inches long.

These same people also shit on other shooters like Trizeal, Trigger Heart, and Chaos Field using the games as punching bags to justify their interest in Under Defeat. Choosing UD is the "secure" route to take. Some people won't admit to enjoying games like Radirgy, Chaos Field, or Trizeal and treat them as "Guilty Pleasures".

Sure, it is possible that Under Defeat is just a great game, and people are loving how good it is. However the slew of ignorant comments coming from certain people shatters this hypothesis.

The reality is that most gamers mainstream or not, are biased insecure idiots who have yet to find a middle ground with the video game hobby. Rather than accept games for what they are, most people will choose a game to get behind, and then choose another game to trash to make their position with the game they are playing more valid.

I hope more people give Radirgy some serious playtime so they can see whether or not they like the game. People who choose not to give the game a fire shot, are only robbing themselves of a potentially fun experience.

On a personal note, I love both Radirgy and Under Defeat, however Radirgy is a game that I enjoy a bit more than Under Defeat. The main reason for this is the pure adrenaline rush the game has. You sit back and build up your ABS meter and then wait until your combo meter is full. All the while watching pills swarm across the screen, and your points skyrocketing. Then once both meters are full....the anticipation builds and you SLAM on the ABS and start taking out everything on the screen sucking in all of the bullets for points. The game is complete madness and my heart pounds as I play the game.

The thing I enjoy the most (as this is my girst soot-em-up) is that it gives you a good chance to dodge enemy fire, bullets come down the screen but will passover certain parts of your ship and there is only a small area where they can hit. I love it when the screen is full of enemy fire an your just desoerately finding space to breath waiting for that ABS to come, then when it does you just wipe EVERYTHING off the screen.

I think i just came extremely close to completing radirgy Very Happy (on easy with full battery hehehe) Is there 5 levels? I just got to the boss which is kind of like a HUGE mech ship. He is kind of grey/black in colour, just as i beat him and threw my controller up in rejoice he transformed into an even bigger HUMUNGOUS white mech crazy ship thing (technical terms Smile ) he absolutely nailed me. is this the last boss? lozz.

I enjoy radirgy a WHOLE lot more than Under Defeat. Under Defeat is a great game, no question about it. It seems that G rev didn't do ANYTHING wrong with that game.

I just enjoy the creative score system that Milestone offers in their games.

I prefer Trizeal to Under Defeat because of its mindless cheesy appeal.

I'd never trash UD since it really is such a masterpiece, but it just isn't for me. I play trizeal and radirgy a lot more.

Yea this is an example of a good review. While ntsc-uk has many writers, their reviews thus far have been rather consistant. Many of the reviews have an indepth tutorial on how the play the game. This not only helps you the player learn more about the mechanics, but also shows the authors know what they are talking about. It proves they didn't just boot the game up for 20 minutes. It gives them clout.

The writer, Gareth Newhouse, makes it a point to cover both sides of the arguement on multiple occassions. He states for instance that there will be people who love Radirgy's look, and then there will be others that are put off by it. Instead of being biased and crucifying/praising the games graphics, he gives you a perspective from both sides.

So far ntsc-uk's reviews have been both informative and accurate in terms of analyzing a game's strengths and weakness. Their reviews of recent shooters have been pretty on point. An important element is that they cator to the audience that is going to read them. They don't write a review for a shooter with "Madden" game players in mind. If a review is posted for a shmup, the information within it is directed towards fans of the genre.
