Hello!

I setup the Quake 3 Arena dedicated server and I tested the console with the heartbeat command and everything was fine. So I tried to get in the room on my Quake 3 Arena PC install (that has the 1.16n update and has played with DC users before) and it said that the "Server uses protocol 43"

The server is on a different computer than the one I tried to join it with, but both are configured to work with DC players, so why would this happen?

Is the server supposed to work with PC users configured correctly? Or only DC users?

Someone please help me.

This Message only appears if your Patch Version (Point Release) is incompatible with the server version . Id had to make zthis step because of cheaters so from patch 1.17 each release is incompatible with each other . Only 1.11 to 1.16 are compatible

--
Start Quake III Arena on the Computer you tried to join the Server . Then open the Console with the ^ key (left from the 1 key)

On the right bottom should be the Patch number your quake is running eg 1.11 blabla or 1.16n blabla .

If it's 1.11 you have to upgrade your Quake Install to 1.16n (But normaly yust dont connect if lower...) if its higher then 1.1.6 eg 1.30-1.31.1.32 you could downgrade your quake , but it's better to use a version switcher

http://files.ofxgamer.com/files/ofx_apps/

Download OFxQ3Switcher-207bf.exe and if you want the update OFxQ3Version207u.zip
Put it into your quake 3 arena main folder eg c:\games\Quake III Arena\

(This programm needs 1.32 PointRelease if your version is lower download 1.32c the latest Version + bugfix from idgames)
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/

And start it up , it should ask you to input a serial key if you have not allready . Yust use a shared one if you don't want to play on 1.32 PR

Okay....when I installed 1.32c and ran the version switcher, it started up the Quake III Arena setup, but for some reason when it ran the setup that way, it said it had problems copying "quake3.exe" "Check for Q3A Updates.exe" and "Quake III Arena FAQ.htm" then I had to abort the setup...why exactly is that happening and is there another way I can downgrade?

Thanks,

KoNeko <3

EDIT: Okay Forget all that. I got it working, and I think this topic should be stickied since this is an extra step not in the guide (running the 1.16n setup right after installing 1.30 just didn't work, I had to use the version changer. Thanks so much fallout!

Well never had that problems with the ofx version switcher . But maybe maybe it have problems with the new patch 1.32c
that was yust released some months back .

You can downgrade quake without problems . But im yust moving my comp + all data and don't have access to my quake 3 files .

Ofx q3switch creates unique pk3's in your baseq3 folder yust delet them then download 1.16n patch and install over your current game .

Or you could yust copy the quake files from your second comp over to your gaming pc . Game even works without setting the registry entrys .
