Sega terminates repair service for Dreamcast and Saturn 30.03.07 - Sega Japan communicates that one will stop the internal repair service for Dreamcast and Saturn to 28.09.07. Defective consoles are not no more repaired starting from this date. The same applies also to the accessories of the two systems (e.g. stromkabel, A/V cable, etc.).

Just thought I would bring it up for discussion.

A few months ago i was at sega of americas site and i saw that they still offered repairs for dreamcasts, 50 dollars and you get your dreamcast fixed along with a copy of sega smash pack. i wondered if they were seriously still doing it. I guess it turns out sega wasnt lying when they took the dreamcast out of production and they said they would still support it for 5 or 6 years as i recall.

i sure hope they havent discontinued the gdrom, i think sega is cutting off all ties with the dreamcast though as they must also see its time to move on. taking off their pso servers, and stopping repairs of units at the same time (i wonder if they have even had any in the past few years since you can buy 2 dreamcasts for the cost of 1 repair).

Could be a niche market for someone with the requisite skills to exploit.

guess i didnt see the 2nd date, but this means north america and europe no longer have repair options right? and japan gets like 6 more months.

I thought Europe stopped repair service years ago? I could be wrong though.

I'm kind of disappointed with all this. Especially if the GD ROM production stops. Like when Sega went software only, the only console they didn't make games for, was their own. I feel DC could still go on. But it's like Sega doesn't want it to.

well if the dreamcast is still being talked about with these new releases people will remember the dreamcast and just get the dreamcast version of the ports sega could be doing/is doing is one reason i can see why they would stop gdrom production, also im sure they just wanna stop living in the past and put full focus on the new consoles.

those are all non sega places though, this discussion is just saying sega is gonna stop doing it. they may be certified by sega, but its not sega. if i wanted to i could get my nes repaired if needed and nintendo hasnt offered repairs for who knows how many years.

its not like repairs are very helpful now when you can buy the console again cheaper than the repair cost anyways.
