Hi.

Since my new DC (old one isn't working anymore) doesn't read CD-Rs I can't boot the Utopia boot disc. I have Q3A US but I can't play it because it's a NTSC game and my DC is a PAL DC. So if I install a modchip in my DC will it play Q3A and other NTSC games? Where can I get a modchip?

Are you sure yours doesn't play CD-R's? This is the first time I've heard someone who actually had one that didn't play CD-R's.

If it was manufactured on or after November of 2000, then no, it won't read CD-Rs.

what was wrong with your old one? if it wasnt the mother board you could be able to switch the gd-roms. ive had to do this before and its pretty easy. if its any thing else. you may be able to change what every is bad from the old one. with a new part from the new one. anyway i think its the main board that would stop it from reading cd-rs. im not 100% sure though

Not true - we also got DCs which were made after nov. 2000. Maturion owns for sure a non MIL compatible dc.

That's not completely true, I know several people who own Dreamcasts after Nov. 2000 and seen them play CD-R's without mods.

Sega closed off one security hole, but then crackers discovered another. So yes, Rev 2 Dreamcasts will run CD-Rs, but only if they're formatted in a special way.

I never heard of a PAL DC not running CD-Rs either though...

Oh yeah source? ... I had several dcs and one of them couldnt read cdr-s. I cant remember which year the unit was made ---> but heck where is the source for the rumor that europe only got units made before 11/2000? Anyway the funny point is ---> maturion which had brought up the problem hasnt anwsered since days... maybe the prob is only the fact, that the utopia boot disc dont show a pic via vga. He said he tryed 2 play some quake III --- for sure on a monitor.
