Hi guys

I''ve been browsing this forum and I finally decided to join due to Dragoncast Problems.

here is my problem.

I can't seem to get Virtual On to link together for vs mode.

I've tried with

Two burnt north American copies of Virtual On
Two original North American copies of Virtual On
Two original Japanese copies of virtual On (bootdisk required tried two bootdisk as well)
One North American Copy and a Japanese Sega Saturn Copy of Virtual On

Doesn't link (Saturn disk doesn't even boot up???)

However though

Two burnt copies of F355 Challenge works perfectly when I link the two together.
It responds so fast there is no hassle or any problem with this game.

The Japanese version does not require a code to reveal link vs mode
and I've used the code hold L trigger and R trigger plus AB to reveal the Link vs Mode in the North American version

I got into the Link Vs mode and chose one Dreamcast to RNA mode and the other Dreamcast to DNA mode.

No connection.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Can some one walk me step by step just in case I missed something.

checklist:
Link Cable works (only with F355 Challenge)
Dreamcast can Link (only with F355 Challenge)
Version conflict check ( I have two of each)

Please help I'm fed up with spending so much money on this one game Sad

Thanks for the replies
Jimmy

Well, I just tried this out with an original JP copy, a burnt US copy and a dragoncast cable. I can get the two systems to link up, select characters and stage. When It starts to load the level however, it says "vs cable disconnected."

I then tried two burnt copies and it worked just fine with the method you listed above (one side DNA one RNA). I would say it was the cable if it wasn't for F-355 working fine.

thanks for the reply

can I ask though is your copy the echilon version or a different version?

mine is the echilon version. (whatever you spell it)

At first when set it up I thought the Japanese version didn't work due to me having to use the boot disk
2nd try was with burnt copies but then thought maybe it was because the echilon versions had the different boot up

last try was with two original copies and I thought hey this should do the trick and still a no go.

I just don't know what I'm missing. Crying or Very sad

When I was reading the other thread regarding dragoncast cables I really wished it was the cables but sseeing how F355 challenge works I don't know what to blame now.....

I too have had link problems, mine is with F-355.
I've brought 3 of everything and tried everything, and still can't get it working.

I'll pay strong money for a genuine British sega link cable.

Hey Gunglefuzz

none of your link cables work? Man that is a total bummer.

can you do me a favour? can you try out VOOT to see if it works with your link cables?
If the cables do work you wanna do a switch a roo? I have cables that work with F-355

I can send you the cables and the copies of F355
in return for your cable and working copy of VOOT

This might be our greatest solution yet

Let me know

Thanks

Sorry for sounding ignorant, but video games aren't really my thing, I just adore racing and F-355 is so like the real thing that I just had invest in a DC set up and it's the only game I've got. I'm tempted to purchase a real F-355 arcade machine one day.

I'd happily exchange cables with you, but I feel I'd be getting way more from the deal than you seeing as I've never managed to get mine working. It is brand new though and only been tried a few times. I can assume the cable is working though because I even brought a second one and that didn't work either. It probably won't be much help to you to trade seeing as mine are dragoncast aswell. Failing this, how much can i pay you for what you're offering, and is it American stuff or English, and does that make a diffference anyway ?

Hey Bunglefuzz

Sorry if that sounded insulting.. it was just a shocker seeing how we're in the forum talking about either VOOT or F355 lol. It wasn't intended to be offensive. I apologize if I came across that way.

My original proposal was if you were able to get VOOT up and running I'd love to do a switch a roo with you. Seeing how you want to successfully link F355 and I want to successfully link VOOT.

We both had our share of frustration with purchasing everything so if your cables work with VOOT I'd love them seeing how you've tested them already. Mine are confirmed to work with F355 something that you are looking for.

It's just odd that one game will work and the other wont.

As for the dragoncast I have I believe they all originated from Asia either hong kong, china or taiwan? F355 I have is a burnt working copy that I tested the Dragoncast with, so it will tag along for the ride.

Anyways PM me for more details, right now I haven't really considered selling them but we can talk about that through PM
I believe Advertising or selling in the forum is against the rulez, one of my threads was deleted due to me advertising my twinsticks.

Oh yhaa here is a tip on trying to get F355 to work.
This is how I got mine to work so I hope this can help you.

Turn on both Dreamcast
get into the menu on both dreamcast at the same time
On the first dreamcast hold X and Y and then go into link cable play
Push start while holding X Y
Immediately following that quickly do the same for the 2nd dreamcast
It should link up immediately and you'll be able to select your courses.

I really do hope that it does work for you, I understand he frustration involved to getting them to link

Anyways hope to hear from you in PM and I hope some one can help with my Dragoncast linkiing problem.

Embarassed

The problem was the original Dragoncast vs Cable.

I ordered a new one and it works like a charm with VOOT haven't tried it with F355 though.

Hello,

I just purchased a Brand New Dreamcast Dragon cast VS. Link Cable and Im having the same issue with the cable not working. I have tried everything other than buyin a new cable....

Im playin on 2 CRT Computer Monitors through VGA,

Is this any kind of problem?

Do they have to be on TV's instead?

ITS DRIVING ME NUTS, I WANT THIS GAME TO PLAY!!!

I select VERSIS CABLE then......DNA or RNA then it goes to Test Connection but then goes back to the RNA DNA set up.

Anyone selling theirs that works with VOOT?

Also I have one more ?.....

How many of these cables were made and which one is the most reliable?

Official Sega vs Link,
Dragoncast vs Link....

any more?

Thanks, Please reply

Hey buddy

I have to be straight with you right now, it will never work those cables you have there. Those cables may have been damaged and won't work. You better spring for another Dragoncast Cable if you ask me.

I would prefer to get the original Link Vs Cable from Sega but those are no longer available and Dragoncast Cables are your best bet.

Unfortunately though you have to buy a couple to make sure they work. Quality of the cables are bad.

You do not need to have similar TV's or Monitors at all it's just the cables.

Good luck getting another pair though.

Jimmy

Thanks so much for your reply Jimmy.

Helps alot.... How many did you have to purchase before it worked and gave solid gameplay? Any suggestions where to get them that is reliable and will do returns exchanges.

Im scared to buy more, but heck I want to play with VS with VOOT so bad.

As for the other question asked, the Dreamcast has Virtual ON too. the Dreamcast does not play Saturn Games.
