Where do you think the DC will be in a year from now? Maybe 2? Do you see more and more games going back online for it? Do you see Sega releasing more games for it? Do you see an official DC game going to be released in the US (gasp)? Do you see GD-Rom production starting again? Do you see some games being ported over to it? Please feel free to state your predictions. Thanks =D

I see death.. still. In my opinion its going to get worse, but we should move on to other systems like the GC or Xbox, which have games by sega.
Just my opinion. |

For 2004, it looks like there will still be a constant flow of adventure games hitting the import scene. Some will be pc ports, and some will be original titles.

You know what I see?
I see more and more people interested in the Dreamcast. I see the Dreamcast staying strong to its fans just like the Neo Geo scene. I see atleast 2-3 more new titles coming out for the Dreamcast. I see this site growing even more. ...such as Quake 3 Tournaments and MORE servers, Chu Chu Rocket Puzzle Contests, Dreamstudio contests, New versions of Psilocybin Dreams and browser projects, the possibility of bringing a once online game back online, MSR and SegaGT tournaments and ghost race rankings, a growing PAL PSO community with a fantastic summer of 2004 for PAL PSO, worms and starlancer tournaments, the possibility of people being online in dreamcast games at various times of the day....without having to post games in the schedule(this is a goal)... I see more people taking interest in the Dreamcast online capabilities. I see people finding friends via OC that live in their area, where they could hook up and play once online Dreamcast games in multiplayer offline mode. I see more homebrew games. I see a PC emulator, such as the fabled Icarus dreamcast emulator being released in the next 2 years which might possibly allow us to play every single dreamcast game ever made online using a PC. This will happen in the future....you better believe it. I see people interested in the Dreamcast because they enjoy the system, and not because they are fair weather fans. I see people that actually play a video game system because they enjoy it and don't care if they are the ONLY person in the world playing th console. For people who think the Dreamcast will continue to "DIE" as they say, and for those who say you should just pack it in and move onto another game system; you might as well just sell your Dreamcast right now, and withdraw from sites like Dreamcast History, Onlineconsoles, Dreamcast Emulation, Dreamcast Magic, Sega Guild, and any other website that has true Dreamcast fans. I'll still be here and at other Dreamcast sites even if its just me and 4 other people. I don't care, I love this system and enjoy playing its games over and over again. The Dreamcast will never die......and do you wanna know why? BECAUSE I WILL STILL BE PLAYING DREAMCAST |

Did read past the title because im guessing most would be the same answer. I think it will only get worse and really die in terms of official game releases. Or perhaps only if god blessed us it would have a steady stream of games released and not one going down. This may be the last year but im guessing that’s a no, see a good 2 years left. Think about it even Sega is still making games for the DC. But Death lurks …But for the community it seems fine alone with the US releases and is getting bigger
On a side note more then 2-3 more games coming to the DC to date (im guessing you mean ones anyone could import and enjoy without the language getting in the way, but still I think more of those will come too) ... ill post them all here from site. 1/22/04 Rereleases: Capcom vs SNK 2 Millionaire Fighting 2001 The King of Fighters 2001 Roommate Asami: Okusama wa Joshikousei Director's Edition 1/29/04 Izumo After... After... Limited Edition Fufuta - Wasureenu Kizuna Fufuta - Wasureenu Kizuna Limited Edition Wind: a Breath of Heart (re-packaged) 2/12/04 Kaze no Uta 2/22/04 Puyo Puyo Fever 2/26/04 Psyvariar 2: The Will to Fabricate 3/18/04 LIEN 3/25/04 Shikigami no Shiro II Coming 2004: Orange pocket Ring Age Undecided: Sentimental Prelude Cherryblossam Games being ported over, yes what do you think the bulk of games are coming out now in Japan come from. Making more Dreamcasts, even in Japan no. Everyone there who wants one has one, no need. More Sega made games and or ports yes. Starting with Puyo Puyo Fever and now them doing the port of Shikigami no Shiro II (that may be a rumor) they might make some more, they are making money from the ports. As every DC game released has some fame too it (most not original =(, but still some see Ring Age, but the others are great ports) and they sell well and the DC lives on |

Yea I was kinda dropping a realistic number in regards to games everyone can enjoy de-void of language barriers. Few people realize that most of the Dreamcast's entire back catalogue is comprised of games that originated in the arcades. Outtrigger originated in the arcades...Samba De Amigo did.....pretty much most all of the games released on the Dreamcast were first introduced by sega in the arcades. So games like Border Down and Psyvariar 2 and KOF2002 coming to the Dreamcast now is like a regular day at the office for Mr. Dreamcast. Thanx for posting that list btw dcmagic, definatly drops some perspective on this subject.

Does anyone see a Sega release in the US within the next two years?
|
||||
As much as everyone would love one, that seems very unlikly to fire up the plants again and churn out the disks. The factories were the games were made are probably long gone, or now housing other products.

I see... dead consoles!
Seriously though, I don't see any new Sega DC games released in North America in the future. Go out and ask a few people (non-gamer types), "What do you know about the Dreamcast?" Odds are you'll get a blank stare or shrug of the shoulders. The DC just never made a big impact on the collective consciousness of the public, even among the casual gamers I don't think many gave it much thought. You know what? It's their loss. The DC was a great system that innovated gaming for those that took a chance on Sega. I see a group of core gamers that will continue to play the DC though. There will be a handful of new games, out of Japan mainly- though some homebrew games might prove to be worth owning too. As a back-up or even primary way to surf the web for others. Lordnikon makes a good point about there being a growing community that will try to keep the DC online games going in some form or another. I think it's good to step back and appreciate being part of a select group of gamers. The majority may not care about the DC, but those that dig deeper will experience a lot of fun gaming. I was fortunate to be part of the beta test group for Xbox Live. It was fun, exciting and for that brief time you had the feeling of being part of a special group. There was a lot more interaction with those you played, often asking about what State you were from, what games you were looking forward to and so forth. I talked to a lot of people about my time playing the DC online, giving credit to Sega for being to first console company to try online gaming. Some had no idea what the DC could do. Anyway, my point is that now Xbox Live is much, much bigger but has gotten a bit more impersonal, if you know what I mean. Sure the friends list is a great feature, but I rarely interact with other new gamers like I did in the beta test days. Many don't even bother to talk to you during games. Having a small, but enthusiastic group on the DC makes for a better sense of community. It's a good thing. Trust me. |

I know what you mean, weird people I played on DC were always for the most part nice, PS2 online which I play alot too is like Xbox, sitll can find some cool ppl but ... ehh just different |

I think people on the Dreamcast cherish the fact that they can play online games with the DC. They are gamers who appreciate the experience and really enjoy it. You can find these gamers on other systems. Its more difficult because of the huge numbers of people.
Your more likely to run into someone that says "HAHHAHAHA I owned j00 n00b, goddamn you suck!! I just 0wnz0rd j00!!!!" |

i don't know how things are gonna go, but i'm gonna try and get the most out of my online DC games while i still can. Starlancer, Ferrari 355, PSO2 and hopefully 4x4 Evolution soon too.
There's loads of people who can't get BB. As far as i know the only solution is the GC (just PSO?) or a PC (hassle). I hope all the BB game advertising brings more people on DC who can't get BB. |

Bump...and what a big one!
Here we are, two years later, and while we've lost a few online games, and gained one more, we've made significant advances. An online touney is going on right now (sorry I couldn't make it, guys, my DC's online capabilities have been a bit fuzzy as of recent), there are more games than ever confirmed online always, we've got three releases coming in the next three months (two official, one GOAT release), and I'm having more fun than even with my ever-growing Dreamcast collection. While I respect the guy, aflyingcow couldn't have been more wrong concerning the Dreamcast. Here we all are, over 1500 people strong, and we're still growing. We've had a great year for Dreamcast, and there are quite a few more on the horizon! |
