Dear eBay Community Member,
We'd like to advise you of changes to our Postage & Packaging Policy that will come into effect on 27th January 2009. The new policy requirements for listing on eBay.co.uk include: 1. The need for sellers to specify a domestic P&P cost on all their listings. 2. The introduction of maximum costs for domestic P&P in the following categories: Video Games Books / Comics / Magazines Music DVD, Film and TV Mobile and Home Phones 3. All DVD listings to offer free P&P for domestic deliveries. Excessive P&P costs are cited as a major reason for buyers spending less online. Offering a competitive P&P cost can drive higher sales conversions on eBay. We believe these changes will enable sellers to continue offering the best value on eBay, and allow for us to continue serving you with the largest volume of buyers on the web. To help sellers add this information to multiple listings at once, we've added new functionality which will be available in Selling Manager and Turbo Lister. To find out more information about these changes, please visit the eBay General Announcement Board. Regards The eBay Team END OF MESSAGE Is anyone on Ebay.com and other areas getting this or have Ebay.co.uk gone out on a limb? Not sure why they have released this news now as in this message they have not specified any prices. This is sure to make a lot of angry Ebay sellers like they dont pi$$ off people often enough already. I take great pride in not marking up postage or buying from anyone I consider has marked up postage anyway so I feel I am already ahead of them on this one. In fact if you factor my time and costs I probably loose on postage. Personally I feel this is over the top and not needed, you just got to use a bit of common sense and if you like the postage price pay it and if you dont then dont. Not rocket science. The postage cost is also not as easy to factor as Ebay are making out. One self employed man drives a DC game 2 miles to his nearest post office: Thats 10 mins of his time at Minimum wage roughly £1, plus his fuel 20p, plus the jiffy envelope 50p. Theres £1.70 and its not even posted yet. I doubt this will actually effect me that much but I do feel once again this is Ebay using a hammer to crack a nut. Remember: Keep this thread on Topic about DC games postage, lets not veer off onto to much Ebay policy. Laters |

here in the states you don't have to drive to the post office if you don't want to. you can have them pick up your packages when they drop off the mail. you would have to have packing supplies and such already at your home. if you ship with fedex or DHL they have drop boxes. meaning shorter drives. but again you would need the packing supplies on hand. if your a large enough seller having this stuff on hand shouldn't be a problem though.
you are right we don't have to buy from sellers with huge shipping costs. this doesn't mean i like to see them try to rip people off. i don't see why a DC game needs to cost more than 3 or 4 bucks to ship with out insurance. you could use normal stamps and never leave your home and it would cost only a few bucks. the shipping time might be longer but it would be less money. another method here would be media mail. it is cheap to ship a game using media mail. you might have to drive it to the post office but its not very much to ship it. so i cant see to many reasons sellers need 10 bucks to ship a game with standard shipping. they have to many cheap options and its sad to see them ask for more money from people to me. another thing i really do not care to see is a game listed for something like $1 and have $15 or $20 shipping. its lame if they want $15 dollars for the game then list it as such. they are not fooling anyone and its annoying to me. with all this said i still don't know if i agree with ebay trying to impose new rules on shipping. i guess i will have to wait and see how it all plays out |
