one word... magicjack! well is that 2 ? w/e if any 1 has this devise let me know if you can actualy go online with it it would be less hard than doing a pc/dc server

here is the device: http://www.magicjack.com/6/index.asp

you simply plug it in you pc then you could plug your dreamcast on it. i can't test it.

This is a service to route phone calls over broadband. It still wouldn't get your Dreamcast Online. You would need to still connect through magicjack to an ISP.

when i said i didnt think it would work i was talking about dialing an ISP. i thought that was implied, sorry i should have been more clear. i wish i knew someone who had one of these for more tests, because this could be a cheap way of getting online with free ISPs.

I have been looking into this, and plan to get one of these for testing at some point. I figure its a 50/50 chance. I dont know when this will be, but i will keep you all posted if and when this does happen.
as of lately ive just been working on too many projects, but ill see what I can to.

Even if it does not work with isp's, I bet it would still give you a dial tone for use with PC-DC servers. No need for line voltage simulator or land line for a dial tone would be useful.

Drez is right, if anything at all, from what ive seen / read, etc so far - it will definitely give you a dial tone to use with a pc/dc server.

I have done research and I found out that Voip uses data compression to transfer voice. It is not meant for data though so it might not work. Faxing works on it though. Here are some sites on this: http://www.magicjacksupport.com/using-magic-jack-to-connect-to-a-dialup-account-t3079.html

http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=155798

Quote on first reply- If your SD-DVR is a TiVo, then that's the problem. The DirecTV DVRs force a very low speed for their modems, which makes them very compatible with less-than-ideal phone lines, but TiVos try to connect at high speeds, and are generally incompatible with VOIP phonelines.

Maybe 33k modem will work?

This has got to be the best reference- http://www.magicjacksupport.com/modem-calls-via-mj-t6137.html

Hopefully this helps!

EDIT: Found this quote from the last link- The only way I have been able to successfully effect a modem dial out is to use an ATA where you will have greater control over the transmission parameters.
Suggest a PAP2-NA

Here is the ATA he suggested- http://www.voiplink.com/Linksys_PAP2_NA_p/linksys-pap2-na.htm

CAVEAT:This is against the MJ TOS, fwiw

Amazon has one here-http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Broadband-Phone-Ports-RTP300/dp/B000HCTMZK

Good info^ I think that dreamcall and dreameye software connects 2 dc's by a phonecall. If so than this could make them more affordable to use long distance. But that working is also a long shot.
