The Dreamcast has been around for more than 10 years and I figured by now most people's console have lost the ability to save the date and time. Unlike the Saturn which has a very easy to replace CR2032 battery, the Dreamcast has a special battery that is accessible only by unscrewing and opening the case. There is a rechargeable internal battery soldered to the controller port and I wish I knew how to replace it.
It's quite annoying having to enter the date and time each and every time I power up my console and was wondering if any of you guys have experience in changing this battery. |

it's a similar battery to the one used in the vmu and saturn, but rechargeable. I believe you can just pop it out with a small tool and insert a new one with the correct orientation.
This post over at digitpress should make things a little clearer. |

So do you need to do any soldering to fix this?
Also, everytime I enter the date on my DC it is a reminder of how fricken old I am getting. You start counting up the years to correct the DC's date, and its like your life starts flashing before your eyes. |

Soldering IS required to replace the cmos battery. I have done it a few times. It's a bit hard, but I recommend using something like speaker wire to make it easier. I tend to use speaker wire when replacing batteries for old consoles that require batteries.
I could make a guide and have you post it here if you would like. One of my dreamcast batteries is over due for a new battery I could do it video or pictures. Video would be a little difficult, but doable. |

I have a sega saturn as well as Dreamcast, but until this discussion I did not know the Dreamcast had an internal battery. Though it really makes sense considering I have to reset all the time. Anywho, Here's a link I found really helpful on the matter.
