I've seen a write-up using two recharable AAA batteries in a small plastic battery holder, that what i plan on using myself since rechargeable CR2032 batteries are not exactly common. Anyone have a link handy or know the site i'm talking about ?

Thanks.

Is this for the internal System battery or the VMU?

The internal battery. While not exactly the one i was looking for, heres a similar guide.

The VMU you can just wire up a 9v battery and it seems to work fine and lasts seemingly forever, kinda bulky though.

Hi Just wondering why do you need your CR2032 batteries to be rechargeable? Can't you just buy non rechargeable ones and replace them when they have run out?

The dreamcast automatically charges any battery that is connected to it when you switch it on, so if you add a standard battery you are most likely going to cause it to explode or at least start leaking after a short while.

The dreamcast also uses more power when switched off (No idea why) than some other things (eg Saturn) so even if you could use a normal battery you would be replacing it ever few weeks

Oh ok, Is this the same for the Sega Saturn internal battery? And the VMU?

No, they are ordinary CR2032 batteries, making life much easier Smile

Just an FYI, when replacing your DC battery make sure the leads from what ever kind of battery you will be using (in my case 2X AAA in a small holder) aren't so long that they stick to far out of the bottom of the circuit board. They can ground out on the metal cover below and possibly ruin the batteries/blow them up.

I noticed mine starting to get hot while i was reassembling and luckily got them out in time before anything went terribly wrong.

Just a heads up. Wink

*scratches head* The Saturn and the VMU use CR2032 batteries though?

Sorry have I caused some confusion?..lol

Dreamcast VMU and Saturn use standard non rechargeable CR2032 batteries

Dreamcast internal battery uses a rechargeable ML2032 battery (or similar spec alternative)

Ah okay. I got confused for a second there. I thought your usage of the word "they" meant the DC's battery. But I just read the conversation incorrectly. So I read it like this: "No, the DC's batteries are ordinary CR2032 batteries, making life much easier". Sorry about that Smile
