Hi

I just got a dreamcast few days ago for few euros
After a cleaning, it's now time to get some software Smile

I'm looking at Shen Mue and Biohazard: Code Veronica

Now, mine is a Japanese Dreamcast, equipped with the universal mod chip, so my question is: are the JPN versions of these games still playable/enjoyable/understandable for a person with very basic Japanese knowledge or should I get the US (or PAL) versions?

Of course, any advice about other games to try is welcome, just keep in mind that I'm not overly fond of shootemups or platforms Wink

hi michel

i would have to say no do not get the JP versions of either one of these. i would have to think if you don't understand Japanese you are going to have a hard time with both of them. both have a story you need to follow, more so for Shenmue. if i was you i would buy the one from your region. at least then you will get speech in the language that you understand. shenmue has a lot of directions that are given to you from people you meet. you will also want to understand the epic plot, its a big part of what makes the game fun.

as for biohazard, i would say it's playable in japanese as long as you are thorough when you are searching the environment, because you wont have any direct in-game information to help you out. i do recommend getting the english version though because it's easy to obtain, it's cheap and you won't have any problems knowing what's going on. the english dc version lacks some cool but ultimately minor extras compared to the japanese code veronica complete version, so really i'd say your best bet is US or Pal version on that one.

Armada was only released in the US

Get the US version titled "Jet Grind Radio"

As for Gundam Side Story: 0079, you can get either region.

silly me!

for some reason I judged the graphic style to be very Japanese, hence I thought it was a Japanese game
