I have been working on automated methods for extracting content from the web archive recently (i've been making great progress!). In my travels I always seem to locate content of interest that is burried or so far off the beaten path.

So I am working to try and extract every major revision of Sega's website stored in the web archive.

I came across these blank pages:

http://web.archive.org/web/19990508031324/http://sega.com/new_welcome4.html

At first I was like this is garbage, some error page. Nothing comes up in the browsers I tested. Its just blank white.

However... view the source code Wink

Soon you will see 3 huge DC swirl logos in ASCII Art.

I bet this was an early viral marketing effort for the DC. Pretty cool, figured I would share Very Happy

It actually works when you view the page in Internet Explorer (the swirl animates in the background). I do get the blank page when using FireFox, though :/.

Ah I see, yea I should have tested this in multiple browsers.

Its cool to see some oldschool 'nerd' cred with this splash screen. I can't believe they did this for their intro page for a time. So cool.

I found another interesting bit of ascii art. Load up any Quake 3 Arena save with a hex editor, and you will see the Q3 logo imprinted in the HEX code Wink
